Welcome!
Campfire Girls Northfield is in it's infancy. We are just starting
to begin discussions on forming a group for girls that would coincide
and work with the 344 BSA Units. The 344 Units are Chartered by
Bethel Lutheran Church and consist of a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout
Troop and Co-ed Venturing program. The thinking of this integration
would be to provide parents with "one stop shopping" for
the younger age groups so to speak, yet run separate programs for
boys and girls. At age 14 the girls can cross over to the 344 Venturing
Crew.
These interrelated programs are a reflection of local values and
local ethics led by local volunteers.
The Campfire program had it's origins a little before the Boy Scouting
movement and involved many of the same founders. James West the
first Chief Scout Executive of the BSA supported Campfire Girls
through his tenure. Lord Robert Baden Powell used a lot of the ideas
from Ernest Thompson Seton. Seton helped frame the Campfire Girls
program through his book, "The Birchbark Rolls of the Woodcraft
Indians". When Powell structured the Scouting Movement
in England he used a lot of Seton's ideas.
Although Campfire is not exactly Scouting, it is very similar in
it's structure and it's educational goals of creating future Leaders
through Leadership training. Campfire uses similar methods to Scouting
and is now co-ed. The Campfire Unit we are attempting to set up
would be a girls only program. Kids learn through these programs
skills which are not taught in schools and should be considered
supplementary education for youth.
At this point we are looking for some adult female leaders to help
us in this endeavor. Campfire Girls Northfield will be a Christian
based group that has some meetings and events coordinated with the
344 Units to make it easier for parents with both boys and girls
to be in the system.
See the "Quality
System" programming techniques for an overall view of what
Campfire will encompass at http://qsystem.us

We anticipate starting this program very shortly and are excited
about it's future! Please feel free to contact us by going to the
